School house rawk

| | Comments (1)

Spring quarter starts tomorrow, I think I need more time off. I had a break from school, now I need a break from my life. I'm sitting here watching Lost in Translation wishing I was going to be traveling instead of sitting in classes for another year and a half.

I gotta do something to get outta this funk, but I just haven't figured out what that is yet.

I kinda want to start taking pictures again but I can't imagine when I will have the time.

Aw crap.

Crappy morning...

So I woke up to the phone ringing this morning at 7:00 and thought "Who the f*** is calling me at 7:00 am?!?!" I rolled over and figured I would check it out when I got up in a few minutes. After laying in bed for a little while longer I noticed that my clock still said 7:00, that's not good. That means that I forgot to set the clock back to time and it was still on the alarm setting. It was really 8:45 and I have a 9:30 class. Shit. I jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes and ran out to put my shoes on.

While tying my shoes I checked to see who called and it was Melinda saying she and her mum got to NY fine. She was calling to check in and make sure that I got up because she knows how I have a hard time waking up for my early class on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Thank you Melinda! Man, my wife totally rules.

I ran out the door, jumped in the car. Great, I'm running on fumes, but I had to push it. I got to Wallingford where I park only to see the bus go driving by as I was halfway down the block from the bus stop. No way to even run for it so I just got calm. I love moments like that when you realize that nothing you do can have any affect on the shitty day that you are having and you might as well just chill because that is the best that your day is going to be.

I caught the next bus and made it to class just in time. (Which drives me crazy because I'm a chronically early person.

I'm tellin' ya. That's no way to start a day.

ASIS&T Conference

I went to the annual ASIS&T Information Architecture summit in Austin, TX last weekend. (view site) Very cool stuff and I have lots of ideas for research and independent study work I would like to do in school. A few of the talks were very interesting; I really enjoyed the ones on Information Design and Information Visualization. I wont go into detail here because I'm sure I wouldn't do them justice and couldn't really explain them without writing quite a bit (so sue me, it's late!) so sufice to say I dug it.

Austin is a pretty cool town, first time I had ever been there. Didn't take any photos tho, most of the time (almost all) was spent inside a conference room at the hotel listening to various speakers. I did have a chance to catch up with Gerald and Cammie Collier. T'was nice to see them. They drove me around town a bit and showed me their new house. Very cute indeed. I didn't really get out on to 6th street, which is the street for music. I guess I just wasn't into wandering around by myself, it would have been much nicer if Melinda was there w/me. She's the best travel companion a fella could ask for.

I did travel w/two fellow students and that was a lot of fun so I guess I wasn't completely alone. It was nice to have friendly faces at the conference.

Must go to sleep... very tired.
