Still here, still chugging along

| | Comments (0)
I promised myself that I would be better about maintaining my blog, but then again I've been saying that since 2003 when I had my first iteration.  Hmmm... let's see...  well, I finally anted up for paid hosting.  I was starting to get concerned that my own server was going to poop out and I'd lose everything (no big loss, but still).  I've been using what was my old desktop computer (with a few new parts here and there) from MountainZone.com days.  Um, I left that place in 2001.  I think it's a freakin' miracle that computer lasted as long as it did, considering it was on 24/7 for so many years.   Anyway, I wound up using A2Hosting.com, which so far has been pretty sweet.  I got 250gigs of storage and transfer a month, which I'm sure I'll never get close to touching, and some very nice web utilites to upload and manage the several sites I'm hosting.

Hmmmm.... what else.

Well, I've been enjoying the summer so far.  I bought a pretty sweet bike a few weeks back and have been taking it for rides along Alki beach.  I finally realized that while I like riding a bike, I'm not a big fan of riding in the city nor am I much of a hill climber.  So, I caved and bought an old school beach cruiser.   No gears, big cushy seat and a kick brake, just like I had for my paper route when I was a kid growing up in Arizona.

Sweet new bike.

Never got around to putting up my pix from NYC so here they are.

This is my self portrait on the Empire State Building.

Busy busy busy...

Well it's been awhile since I wrote anything. However this time, instead of my usual excuse of simply thinking there is very little in my life that is blog worthy, I have actually been pretty busy. Went to Las Vegas, then home for a week then, off to work in the NYC office for a few weeks.

Here are some of the Vegas pix.

The Riverdance
Gaje and Mike do the Riverdance on the strip.

A bunch of friends flew down to Las Vegas for my birthday and had a really great time. Most of us stayed at the Mandalay Bay with a few others scattered around town. The majority of the Vegas pix are at the Peppermill Lounge, which is a sweet 70s ultra lounge close to the Sahara hotel. We wound up there the evening of my birthday and then someone started to order the drinks with the big pink straws. I think they were called scorpions. There are more pictures on Lani's flickr page.

NYC pics to follow.

Some new pix

I put some new pix up on my flickr site. They are just some snaps of a few of the poker games I go to. The ones where it's all a buncha dudes, that's the Monday night game. I've been playing off and on in that game for I think almost 5 years. The pix with a mixed crowd is a game that happens over at Josy's place from time to time. This time we were celebrating Benny's birthday by playing poker and eating pot roast. Hells ya, yo.

Damn my cat is cute...

Added some new pix of the house. Not super exciting but some folks were asking to see them. You can see the whole lot here.

Check out the floor before:

Yes it's true. I have climbed aboard the mortgage train. Come oh ye blessed debt! I just need to keep telling myself there is good debt and there is bad debt.

I will be closing on or before July 29th. Of this year even!

Here are a few photos of the place. A lovely house full of someone else's stuff.

DSCN7108.jpg

Canals, canals, canals. Man I got lost a lot in Amsterdam. I usually have a really good sense of direction when I travel, take Rome for instance. I don' t that city has a straight street anywhere and I managed just fine, but Amsterdam fergitaboutit.

DSCN7110.jpg

These two fellows were walking along and happend to step infront of my camera. I think it was around this time that I realized that I like taking pictures of people way more than of buildings or fountains or statues, so from here on out you see pix of random people mixed in w/the scenery.

DSCN7112.jpg

Some buildings near the train station. Not sure why I took this picture, but I still like it. I spend a lot of time looking up when I walk around taking pictures, I wonder if I'm secretly optimistic?

DSCN7113.jpg

This guy was standing in front of Madame Tussauds looking up at a wax figure of Pierce Brosnan. Go figure. He lookes like he should be in a Bay City Rollers reunion band.

DSCN7115.jpg

This is the only evidence that the little Hotel Kap is on this street.

DSCN7120.jpg

This is one of the streets that leads to (but this view is looking away) the Leidseplein

This is a typical coffee shop. I didn't go into this one, but the one I did go into they weren't drinking much coffee.

Sorry about the pictures being so dark, I edited them on my laptop and the display is so bright that now they look dark. For the last few batches I'll do them on my pc.

canalView01.jpg
A nice little view of a canal over by the flower vendor area of town. There weren't any tulips (wrong time of year) but there were about a bajillion bulbs for sale. I didn't buy any though.

febo01.jpg
Those crazy Dutch flock around these vending machines. I never mustered the courage to try something (I'm sure it would have been on par with the fast food crap we serve in America) but I did eat at a Turkish kebab place next to one.

febo02.jpg
A closer view of the vending machine (stupid blurry camera).

That's it for now. I had a bunch more open in Photoshop to crop but it crashed on me and I lost all the work. It's late and I have class tomorrow so maybe I'll get a few more done then.

From Vienna Pt. 4

wienHoffburg.jpg
The former apartments of Sissi and Franz Joseph, aka the hofburg.

wienTrainStation.jpg
The Wien train station. I was waiting to catch a train to the airport to fly off to Amsterdam. I was sick, it was raining, I was tired and everyone was smoking. I listened to the Shins and everything was alright.

leavingWien.jpg
Looking the otherway at the train station.

wienTrain.jpg
On the train. I don't think this picture does it justice, but there was something so vivid and technicolor about the interior of the train. Between Amsterdam and Vienna I came back from this trip with a new appreciation for the color orange.

wienTrainTrees.jpg
This picture isn't all that exciting but the Long Winters had come on the iPod and I felt very melancholy and kinda sad. I think it was because I was sick and it reminded me of Seattle, which made me miss my bed and cat.
